Mark Staufer, the creator of The Numinous Place, wanted to tell a story that would break out of the ordinary, a story that would appeal through not only text, but also video, images, and sound. Staufer collaborated with a number of artists, writers, and actors, to bring his work to life through practically every type of media. Evolving from a book to something that is much more, The Numinous Place creates a medium that will grant the audience with the means to interact with the story, giving a greater insight to the events taking place.
Fascinated with dreams and the afterlife, Staufer has worked towards developing “an epic work of fiction” that sets the audience alongside the protagonist as he investigates a secret called “The Grand Depiciton.” The Numinous Place combines elements from famous works such as The Matrix and The Divinci Code, both of which have a unique insight to death, dreams, and mystery. The plot revolves around “lucid dreaming”, where the subject can literally take control of their dream, quite similar to how it is done in the film Inception. The protagonist in the story uses the dreamworld to travel into the afterlife where he learns that humankind is not where or who we think we are. As readers follow the hero, they will be able to play detective as all the evidence and narratives are shared with them through their computer, ereader, iPad, or mobile device.
